The aim was to link, improve and create paths as close to the coast as possible for local communities and visitors to Wales. It was an exciting project that was announced in 2006 and took about six years to complete. From St Dogmaels in the north to Amroth in the south, the trail covers almost every kind of maritime landscape from steep limestone cliffs, undulating red sandstone bays, volcanic headlands, beaches, estuaries and flooded glacial valleys. Distance Tables These tables give distances between over 200 locations along the Wales Coast Path To avoid them being as big as the table you eat off, we have produced eight tables - one for each of the eight regions - available in miles or kilometres. The Wales Coast Path was opened in May 2012 and joins up existing Welsh coastal paths by adding new sections to create the world’s first coastal path that traces a whole country.
